Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Otoplasty reshapes, repositions, or reduces the size of the ears to achieve better facial balance and natural proportions. Commonly performed to correct prominent, asymmetrical, or misshapen ears, it offers permanent results with minimal downtime
- Improves ear symmetry and facial harmony
- Corrects prominent or protruding ears (“bat ears”)
- Boosts confidence and comfort with hairstyles or headwear
- Suitable for children and adults alike
Children (typically over age 6) and adults with protruding, asymmetrical, or irregularly shaped ears seeking aesthetic or reconstructive improvement. Evaluation ensures realistic expectations and proper ear cartilage maturity.
Usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, lasting 1–2 hours. Incisions are placed behind the ear to reshape or reposition cartilage. Sutures secure the new contour. Mild soreness and swelling last a few days; a headband or dressing is worn for support. Most return to school or work within a week.
Results are immediate once swelling subsides, providing natural-looking ear shape and position. Improvements are permanent, with minimal scarring hidden behind the ears. Confidence and facial balance are notably enhanced.
